I finally finished my second rug. It's basically the same as my earlier rug made of bed sheets but this one uses T-shirts. I really wanted some bright colours so I made a trip to Value Village for a 3 brightly coloured tees to add to my pile of shirts that myself and everyone I know had decided they were done with. Some T-shirts didn't really work as well as others.
Gracious Rain does an excellent tutorial on cutting T-shirts into continuous T-shirt yarn so I'm just going to skip ahead so my yarn balls and making the T-shirt rug.
Next you braid your yarn together.
It's important to make one continuous braid from your T-shirt yarn.
Sewingforlife! explains how to start off your braid and how to add to your braid so much better than I could even attempt but you basically unroll your yarn and sew it on an angle and cut off the excess.
I had a slight love affair with my ball of t-shirt yarn. |
I decided to sew mine by hand hand. It was time consuming to say the least but it was a bit thick for the machine to handle. |
Perfect in front of the fireplace. |
